The Story of Fun With Dolls

Angered at a floor strewn with dolls and their clothing, the mother of one of Karey Shinn's friends threw all of her dolls in the fireplace where they were consumed in flames.

Many Years later Shinn came across some old 12" fashion dolls in a thrift store, bundled together naked in clear plastic bags, being sold for a pittance. Reminded of her own lost dolls, she decided to give these poor things a new home with custom clothes to wear, and a job working as models in the photographic tableaux she would create.

Fun With Dolls is the latest project from environmental activist and multi-disciplinary artist Karey Shinn, MFA, informed by her work in couture and costume design, expressing her commitment to re-use and high style, and of course, fun with dolls.
